Homemade Corn Dogs

I have never thought about making my own corn dogs until I saw a recipe by Christy Jordan over at Southern Plate.  They looked really easy to make and so why not try them.  They also fall right into my Texas State Fair foods tribute so close your eyes while you are eatting them and pretend you are at the fair.
Don't be alarmed at all the ingredients it's not that bad.
In a bowl add 1 c all purpose flour
1 cup cornmeal.  My cornmeal is white some is yellow so don't be alarmed if yours doesn't look like mine.
2 Tablespoons sugar for a little sweet
1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
add 1 1/3 c milk
1 egg
Mix well.
Add 1/2 c flour to a plate.  You will use this to roll the hot dogs in.
I did have to pick up some sticks at Walmart in the craft department.  Skewers will be too long and they wouldn't fit in the fryer.  These are just strong enough to hold the hot dog and short enough to fit in the fryer, plus you will still have something to hold on to.
Skewer the dogs.
They will look like this.  I needed to push this one on the stick a little bit more.
Roll around in the flour until all of it is covered even the ends.
Pour the batter in a tall glass that the dogs will fit in.  Dunk them.
Then drop in the hot oil.  It will stick for just a minute on the bottom.
Three was all I could get in the fryer at a time.  Keep turning them so they cook and get brown on all sides.
Take up and drain on a paper towel.
All 8 of the corn dogs.  They are not as pretty as the store bought ones but they sure were good.
Serve with some mustard and dig in.
