Today we checked off a bucket list item. We took the ferry over to Martha’s Vineyard and saw the gingerbread houses. The island was beautiful and the flowers incredible. There will be lots of pictures and I don’t apologize for that.
There are several locations that you can catch a ferry. We left from New Bedford. You can take just the people ferry or take the car ferry. We decided mainly because we checked too late on the car ferry to just take the people ferry over and back. The island really reminded us of Mackinac Island with the exception that there are cars, lots of cars here.
Our ferry dropped us off in Oak Bluffs. There are four “towns” on the island.
There are three hundred and something gingerbread houses. We saw a good many of them and took lots of pictures. Here’s are some of our favorites.
Now for the flower pictures. The gardens were beautiful.
We saw the oldest carousel in North America today.
Lunch today was outside at the Seafood Shanty.
View from lunch.
Now see that flag? That is on Chappaquiddick Island. There use to be a bridge from the side we were one to that side. But I think we all know why it was torn down. Now you have to take a car ferry over. They have these three car ferries that run all the time.
The fish are fresh on the island.
Murdick’s fudge is at Martha’s Vineyard just like at Mackinac.
While riding the bus over to Edgartown we passed by the bridge from Jaws. I didn’t get a picture but I did takes pictures of this shirt they sell in town.
We had a very full day. Tomorrow will be another little sea town made famous in a movie.
