Banana Split Dump Cake

Dump cakes are all the rage right now.  They are so easy to make and they don't take long to make either.  This one is a fun one for summertime.  In this recipe the actual dump cake taste really good by itself but there's some sprucing up to it when it is time to serve that takes it up a notch.

We had this Memorial Day.  This one has only a half a cherry on top because it was for the stingy cherry person, the rest of us got whole cherries.  If you don't know what I am talking about go back and read the pear salad post.
I had bought a couple of these purely simple cake mixes.  They work really well for this kind of recipe.
Start with a  9x13 pan.  Spread out the can of strawberry pie filling.
On top of the strawberries add a 20 oz can of crushed pineapple.  Do not drain the pineapple.  It is a little hard to spread it out.  It's okay if they mix a little.
Then sprinkle a white cake mix on top.  Make sure you cover all the fruit.
Then slice up the stick of butter and spread it out on top.  Some recipes call for melting the butter but this one didn't.  You probably could.  I also put a few broken pieces of pecan on top.  Place in a preheated 325 oven for 60-75 minutes.  Mine took the whole amount of time.  I checked it at 60 though.
You can serve it warm or cold but I didn't want mine warm. Now you could use ice cream instead of the whipped cream and warm would be really good.
Now comes the fun part.  You get to add the banana split part.
Dip up the cake.
Add some sliced banana on top.  I was told there wasn't enough banana when I served it.
Sprinkle some coconut on top.  If you don't like coconut don't add it.
Add some nuts.  I added walnuts for something different.
Now a squirt of whipped cream.
Add chocolate sauce and a cherry.  I also added some colored sprinkles.  You can add whatever you like on top.
