Dips--Tailgate Week Day 1

I am so excited that football season starts this week. I just can't wait.  This year I fully intend to enjoy football season.  For those of you that might be new to the blog this time last year we gutted our house. I had to live through football season with just a crockpot and microwave. Let the tailgate treats start.  And that is what I want to share with you this week.  Some recipes that you can make at home for those tailgate parties you might be planning.  Some of these will even travel to those gameday campus tailgates. I hope you enjoy this week's additions and can find something for your party. So we are starting with Dips.  All parties need a good dip.  Some of these are warm dips and some are cold.  Some are also sweet.  Something for everyone.

Black Forest Dump Cake

We were having company for dinner the other night and I needed a quick and easy dessert, so why not a dump cake.  I try to keep the ingredients in the pantry for at least one dump cake so when I do need to make something quick I don't have to run to the store.  Time to restock.  I looked back at my recent recipes and it seems I have made lots of things with cherries lately.  Sorry about that but I really like cherries and the fresh ones have been really good this year.
Those red cherries look so pretty in that red bowl.  Needed just a tiny bit of ice cream on top.
Dump cakes have become very popular lately because they are very easy to make because all you have to do is dump.  This is a great recipe to have the kids help you with. There are lots of different types so if you are not a fan of cherries you can always find one you do.
Start with 2 cans of cherry pie filling.  Dump them in the bottom of a sprayed 9x13 pan.
Sprinkle the chocolate cake mix on top.
Spread it out a little.
Take the 1stick of butter and melt it.
1 cup of chocolate chips and I used semi sweet to cut some of the sweet.
Sprinkle them around on top.
Pour the melted butter on top.
Now it is ready for the oven.  Place in a preheated 350 oven for 35-40 minutes.
All hot and bubbly from the oven.  It couldn't be easier.
Now to enjoy.

Tex Mex Cowboy Casserole

Sometimes you just need to try something different.  You lay out some ground beef for dinner but you just don't know what you want to make with it.  Nothing sounds good and you don't want the usual, so what do you do?  You go spend some time on Pinterest to look for ground beef recipes.  That is what happened to me last week.  Well I found this casserole and I feel like I should have invited John Wayne to come join the chuckwagon.
This was a good and filling meal.  There might be a few things I would do differently next time though.
This recipe uses Manwich sauce as it's base.
In order to cut down on dirty dishes, boil the noodles first so you can reuse the pan. 1 1/2 cups dry elbow macaroni
Chop the onion.
Wash and drain a can of black beans.
Drain the pasta.
Saute the onion in a little olive oil in the pasta pot.
Brown the ground beef.  Drain.
Then add the black beans.
A can of drained corn.
Add the Sloppy Joe Sauce
Fill the can with water and add.
1 Tablespoon steak sauce
1 1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon garlic
Mix well.
Add the cooked macaroni
1 cup shredded cheese
Sprinkle the cheese around on top. Stir until melted. The recipe also calls for 1 cup of thick and chunky salsa and I didn't have any but it was fine without it.
Then dish up and enjoy.  I added a little more cheese on top.
