Today was moving day. We left the beautiful Santa Barbara area and headed south to Hollywood. Before we left town we had breakfast at the Cajun Cafe, then we had a couple of stops to make. Our friends at the Visitor Center told us we were staying on the orchid trail. I love orchids, can’t grow them though. We picked two of the growers to stop and visit. They are right next to each other. Both had rows and rows of green houses full of plants. The each had a shop open to the public that they sell plants. Of course I took a ton of pictures and I will apologize now for the number of pictures but just know it’s not all the ones I took.
First grower was the Gallup &Stribling Orchids.
The second was Westerlay Orchids. Both growers were getting ready for Valentine’s Day.
I would have loved to have brought them all home but that would not be fair to the plants. They deserve a long healthy life.
The ladies also told us about the sea lion rookery. We thought we had found it. We drove through the state park, paid, drove to the parking area, and hiked a little ways. We think we took the wrong trail because we didn’t find them. It wasn’t a wasted trip because we did see the pretty coastline. The waves were very active and loud.
The last picture is of tar. Just like the La Brea Tar Pits. It smelling just like a freshly paved road.
When we decided we would not find the sea lions, it was time to head south. We took a longer way down to Hollywood. The drive was nice and we saw orange groves, and what I a guessing were cherry trees. It looks like it is going to be a good year for oranges. We also saw strawberry fields, fields of cabbages and I think Brussels sprouts. The dirt was dark and rich looking.
We stopped at Universal City Walk to spend a little time. We did some shopping and had dinner with Jimmy Buffett. But the best was getting some Voodoo Donuts to dessert and breakfast tomorrow.
When we checked into our hotel they upgraded us to a Hollywood view room. You tell me if it is worth it.
Tomorrow is Warner Brothers Studio Tour.
