Ham and Cheese Gnocchi

I know this might seem like a winter dish but it really isn't.  It is a form of comfort food that is good anytime.  If you have not tried potato gnocchi then it is time.  It is like pasta but it's not.  It's little potato dumplings.  They are really good paired with ham.  They can be found in the pasta section of your grocery stores.
I wouldn't normally put it in our big bowls but this way you can savor it to the last drop.
Ham is already chopped and in the bowl.  This recipe does not take long if you do a few minutes of prep work beforehand.
Yes I have some more of that good Mississippi State cheese.  It is in a big ball this time not in a flat round.  It will be interesting using it.
This is what it looks like inside.  It is Edam cheese which is a mixture of Swiss and Cheddar.
Put about a Tablespoon of butter and one chopped onion in a pot to saute.
When the onions are softened add the chopped ham.  This is a ham I baked back in the winter and froze it in packages for times just like this.
Stir around and let the ham get hot.
Add 1/2 cup chicken broth
3/4 cup water
1 pkg of potato gnocchi.  Break them apart so they will cook evenly.
This looks like a pot of white beans with ham.  Cover and let simmer for 5 minutes. The gnocchi will get softened during this time.
Add 1/4 cup heavy cream
1 cup peas.  I never measure.  They can still be frozen too.
Add 1 cup or so of shredded cheese.
Then I added a little extra grated cheese on to.
