One Pot Cheesy Smoked Sausage and Pasta Skillet

I like keeping some smoked sausage in the freezer because 1) it thaws really quickly if I am in a hurry, 2) it is very versatile.  This recipe was a unique twist to the smoke sausage.
You can use any shaped small pasta.  I had penne in the pantry.
Slice the sausage into small rounds.
Put the sausage and chopped onions in a pot on the stove with a little olive oil to brown.
Add a little chopped garlic after the onions are browned.
Add 1/2 cup milk or heavy cream to the pot.  I had cream so I used it.
Add 1 10 oz can chopped tomatoes
2 cups chicken broth.
8 oz pasta.  Which is half the large box.
Stir it well.  Bring the mixture to a boil, cover, and reduce heat to low.  Simmer for about 15 minutes, or until the pasta is tender.
Turn off the heat and stir in 1/2 cup of cheese.
Dish up and add a little extra cheese on top and a sprinkling of green onions.
