Traveling with the Grobmyers March 2, 2024 Day 4

We started the day slow this four hour time difference is hard. We drove around the island and did some exploring and went back to some places we went to yesterday.

Before I talk about today I need to share some pictures from later last night. First the Disney Wonder sailed past our window last night. They docked here yesterday to end the first 15 night Sydney Australia to Honolulu cruise. Now it will sail around the is,ands for a couple of weeks before heading towards Alaska for the summer season.

Then every Friday night the Hilton Hawaiian Village has fireworks at 7:45. The traffic felt like everyone on the island came to town to watch.

Now for Saturday. We stopped at some overlooks and saw the beautiful colors of the ocean.

We stopped at the Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens. The entrance to the gardens is beautiful but there are lots of signs about not stopping for pictures on that road.  The gardens are free which is great. We walked to the lake in just one small part.

All the sites I found that listed the best places to eat listed these next too places. The first stop was Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck. Their garlic shrimp is suppose to be the best on the island. Remember I had garlic shrimp yesterday too.theywere both good but I think I liked yesterday’s best.

The other place is Matsumoto Shave Ice. Yes on the islands it’s have ice and not shaved ice. If you call it shaved they know you are not a local. The ice was great. I had guava passion fruit. We had a snack with a show.

Today’s favorite rooster. He was pretty and brightly colored.

Todays flora and fauna.

I have another story from our tour guide yesterday. I looked up the bird so I would have a picture to show you. There are houses with an area of grasses between two areas where houses are built on the side on the mountain. The alae’ula bird when it is time for him to mate he will pick up a rock and drop it from a height that causes sparks on the other rocks on the ground. The sparks catch on the grasses and a fire starts. The female will choose the male with the largest fire to mate with.she will tamp down the fire and push up the ashes and make a nest. She lays the eggs in the ashes so when they hatch they rise up from the ashes like a phoenix. These birds mate for life. Now those houses have to have fire insurance because. This mating process causes wildfires when it is very dry. I found this picture on the internet because I wanted to see what he looked like too.

That’s it for tonight. Tomorrow is the Aloha Flea Market and the movie tour.
