Pigs in a Blanket Chili Cheese Dip

This is a new recipe I found for one of our homegate football weekends.  It was super easy to put together but I would do a couple of things differently next time and I will share that with you as I go along.

Ready to dive in.

You probably can keep these items on hand during football season so you can throw it together when you favorite team is playing.  Roll Tide.
Heat one 15 oz can of your favorite chili or use your own.  You can use with or without beans.  This is without.
8 oz softened cream cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon chili powder.  We thought it could have used more chili powder.
Unroll the crescent rolls.
Cut into three pieces.
Take one of the cocktail wieners and roll it up in the crescent roll.
You will have a few wieners left over after you use up the rolls.  I put those in some bbq sauce.
Back to the dip.  Grate 8 oz cheddar cheese. Save some for the top.
Mix with the cream cheese.
Add the chili to the cream cheese.
Mix well.
Place it in an oven proof dish.  I would have used a bigger dish.
Sprinkle some cheese on top.
The directions say add the wieners around the dip.  But we found the bottom crescent roll didn't cook.  Uncooked dough isn't good.  Cook them on a baking sheet and then add them to the dip. Place in a preheated 375 oven.  Bake for 12-15 minutes.
Eat the dip with the pigs in a blanket and taco chips.

Does it Work 8

I haven't done a Does it Work in a while but I saw this one in a magazine so I had to try it.  It's time for baking season to kick off into high gear.  You might have some baking soda and baking powder in your pantry you haven't used in a while.  The expiration date might still be good, but is it still fresh and does it work like it is suppose to?  You would hate to go to all that work of baking something for it not to rise because of bad soda or powder.  This is a great test to see if they still have the "juice" to work in your baked goods.
For your baking soda you need some vinegar.
I added 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to a dish.
To that I added 1 Tablespoon vinegar
Pour the vinegar in the dish.
See all the bubbles?  This one is still good.
If you don't have vinegar you can use lemon juice instead.
 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
 Pour it in.
 See the bubbles.
Now to test the baking powder
 1 Tablespoon of baking soda
 1/4 cup hot water
Pour the hot water in the dish
 See the bubbles
Baking powder is good too.

I hope you have enjoyed this little science experiment in the kitchen to see if our baking soda and baking powder was still active and good.  Try it out at home with the kids. They will enjoy watching the activation.

25 Days of Christmas Cookies

Last year I brought you a cookie recipe for 25 days of Christmas.  I thought I would give them all to you together in one post this year. Something I learned last year; when I had some free time I would mix up the cookie dough, and scoop them out and freeze them.  Then when I wanted or needed cookies I could bake a variety of cookies fresh.  There's plenty of time for you to do that this year.   There will be new cookie recipes coming to you this year so never fear.  I have already started working on them.

So here we go...
