On Thursday we left Seward, in the rain with very low visibility. We do go by to get a picture of this statue that marks the start of the Iditarod race.
That was pretty much the highlight of the day. We drove back to Anchorage. When we got to town we drove to the train station to figure out where we needed to go this morning for the train.
This morning we made it to the train station a little after 7. It was a bustling building. Our train to Talkeetna was to leave about 8:30. Joe has really been looking forward to this. We had the glass domed train car.
We arrived in Talkeetna around 11. We learned something today. The show Northern Exposure was based on the town of Talkeetna. This town is not an incorporated city. They have an elected cat mayor. And they call the south crazy. It was a quaint little town. Had some nice shops with unique items.
Some flowers around town.
I found a quilt store there.
We sat by the fire for a little while this afternoon. It was a little chilly. I almost feel guilty saying that because I know how hot it was at home.
We met a guy that drives a taxi service in Talkeetna that is from Alabama,he and he wife come to Alaska about the middle of April and stay until right after Labor Day. He told us several things we need to check out.
We met the train again about 5:30 for the return trip to Anchorage.
Tomorrow we head north to Denali.
Wildlife count so far ravens, ducks, swans, seagulls. Maybe we will see bears and moose in Denali.
