Traveling with the Grobmyers June 25, 2024

So today was a work day, so I had the day to myself. I have enjoyed my time in Traverse City. It is an easy city to get around in. A few more days and I might know my way around. With that said I don’t know how we found things before GPS. I would have never found the places I went to today without my trusty GPS. We had a pretty good thunderstorm rain event this morning so I didn’t get started too early. I headed east of here to a quilt shop I found on line.  Renee’s Hiuse if Quilting looks like it is a long way away but it was only about 30 minutes away. It was a nice drive and I got to see some countryside.

The shop had two chocolate labs that hung around and greeted everyone.

When I was looking for a quilt shop I noticed a butterfly house just down the street from the quilt shop, so I had to check it out. Since we didn’t get to go to Mackinac Island I didn’t get to go to a butterfly house so I checked this one out. It also has a bug zoo. I was not as excited about the creepy crawlies.

Do you see the bee with the yellowish green dot on its back? That is the queen of this hive. Even though I didn’t like all the creepy crawlies the staff there was very knowledgeable about the insects they have. In their zoo.

On my way back to town I stopped at a few places we had seen when we arrived in town that I wanted pictures of. The first is a Murdock fudge place with a piece of fudge on top.

When I pulled over here I heard a very low jet. It looked like a fighter jet so I took pictures. In one picture there are two. When I met back up with Joe he asked if I saw the Blue Angels today. It would seem they are in town for the week. It could be they are going to kick off the Cherry Festival this weekend. He heard them all day but I actually got to see them.

We liked the bear.

I then drove out to the Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor. That was west of the city. Glen Arbor seems to be a neat little town. It’s on the water with all the family activities that goes along with that.

Also on the west side is Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. I did a like scouting for this park. I think we will come back to this area again. I checked out the visitor center which was very nice.

The roof of the visitor’s center.

The water is so pretty and blue. Not what I was expecting from the Great Lakes.

This is the climbing dunes. This is from a distance and you could see people climbing on top.

We met back up at the hotel for dinner.we picked the Blue Tractor BBQ. It was very good bbq.

Tomorrow we start heading south. I’ve seen your backyard temperatures this week and I think I want to stay here where the humidity is low and the temps are in the 70’s.
