Traveling with the Grobmyers June 22, 2024

Well today didn’t go as planned. We had had hopes of taking the ferry over to Mackinac Island, but a rainy rainy day put an end to those plans. While there are places you can trudge on in the rain the Island isn’t one of those places. So we pivoted with our plans.

We found this little breakfast/brunch place that sounded good so we started the day at the Wild Blueberry. It was a busy place and the food was good.

We left there and headed north towards Sault Ste Marie. I found a quilt shop there, The Quilted Moose. It was a neat shop and a delightful owner. She knew immediately that I wasn’t a Yooper. Yes I haven’t told you we are in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan or UP for short. The people that live here are called Yoopers.

This is something you don’t see all the time at home.

We were driving down the street and I saw this eagle statue.

We braved the rain and checked out a few shops.

I’ve never seen one of these before.

We walked over to the Soo Locks and Canal and watched a few boats come through the locks.

We wished we had remembered our passports and we could have driven across the bridge into Canada.

We went back to Saint Ignace and since we weren’t going to the island we had to get some Murdick’s Fudge. They have a location both here and in Mackinac City. They have the best fudge. They have been making it since 1887.

The Traverse City cherry is very good.

Last night we had our fritters we bought at Zenders. I had cherry and Joe had apple. Fun fact Traverse City is known as the “CherryCapitol of the World. They have a cherry festival that starts next weekend.
