Traveling with the Grobmyers May 9 & 10, 2024

All good things must come to an end and this trip did too. Joe finished the work portion of our trip and came to pick me back up from his cousins’ house. I really appreciate them taking the time to show me their corner of Oklahoma. I was a little disappointed that the Pioneer Woman didn’t come to the Merc to see me when she learned I was there. She missed out on getting to see me. Maybe next time.

We had one more meal with Don and Julie before we started east.  They took us to Smitty’s Garage or The Garage as it is known by. It looked just like an old fashioned garage. The burgers were great. I got the fried onion burger and it was so good. Unfortunately their fryer was down so no onion rings or fries. We will have to try that next time.

We said goodbye and headed east. We spent the night east of Little Rock. This picture was in the lobby. Anyone else see half square triangles?

We timed it just right so we would be in Memphis just in time for lunch at the Rendezvous. No trip to Memphis is complete without a stop for ribs. They were closed on Sunday when we drove out so Joe was determined to stop today. Memphis dry rub ribs. Can’t bet them.

You can find the Rendezvous in the alley across the street from the Peabody. They start you out with a bowl of the red beans and rice. Then bring in the ribs. A place with a couple of Bear Bryant pictures can’t be too bad can it?

We walked across the street to see the ducks at the Peabody. If you go be sure and watch the parade of the ducks at least once.

And our final stop on this trip is Walnut Mississippi. We have been stopping in Walnut for over 30 years. There is a little Burgers and Stuff restaurant there, but they have the best milkshakes ever. The building has changed. It use to be just a four way stop, now there is a red light and lots of other businesses there. I got a cherry shake and Mr. Excitement got vanilla. He ALWAYS gets vanilla. If you drive through there stop and try their shakes.

We had fun and enjoyed our get away but as always it is good to be home. The washer is going and we are unpacked. Our suitcases are waiting for next time.
