I haven't done a Does it Work in a while but I saw this one in a magazine so I had to try it. It's time for baking season to kick off into high gear. You might have some baking soda and baking powder in your pantry you haven't used in a while. The expiration date might still be good, but is it still fresh and does it work like it is suppose to? You would hate to go to all that work of baking something for it not to rise because of bad soda or powder. This is a great test to see if they still have the "juice" to work in your baked goods.
For your baking soda you need some vinegar.I added 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to a dish.
To that I added 1 Tablespoon vinegar
Pour the vinegar in the dish.
See all the bubbles? This one is still good.
If you don't have vinegar you can use lemon juice instead.
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 Tablespoon lemon juice
Pour it in.
See the bubbles.
Now to test the baking powder
1 Tablespoon of baking soda
1/4 cup hot water
Pour the hot water in the dish
See the bubbles
Baking powder is good too.
I hope you have enjoyed this little science experiment in the kitchen to see if our baking soda and baking powder was still active and good. Try it out at home with the kids. They will enjoy watching the activation.
