Traveling with the Grobmyers Day 7 July 6,2025

Today was a travel day and it appeared everyone else had the same idea. When they say the Sunday after the 4th is one of the busiest travel days they weren’t kidding. Before we left the Outer Banks area we had to stop and get breakfast. We saw a sign yesterday for Duck Donuts. I looked them up and they looked good. So we had to check them out this morning. The place was hopping.

They are made fresh when you order. Then customized with your toppings.

The seasonal flavors they have right now are peach. They have some other really good looking flavors as well.

These are the ones we picked. Can you guess which of us got the plain one?

If you see a Duck Donuts you need to check it out. The chocolate covered strawberry was my favorite.

Our next stop was Kill Devil Hill. Do you know what important event happened there? You probably know it better by Kitty Hawk North Carolina. Home of the Wright Brothers first flight. They have a really good National Historic Site there. The actual site is on top of a large sand dune. There is a monument marking the spot. There are also markers showing where each of the four flights ended.

Statue of the first flight. Orville and Wilber flipped a coin to see which would be flying the first flight. Orville won the toss.

This shows Wilber and a couple of men from the towns rescue squad on hand along with a photographer.

This was the sewing machine that was used to sew the silk covers for the wings.

This museum was done very well and was a good tribute to the men of vision Orville and Wilbur Wright.

We continued on our drive up to the Williamsburg area. We pulled off in the Newport News area for lunch. We found the Farmer’s Table.

It was a very good fresh burger.

That’s it for today. We may go over to Yorktown tomorrow. We have done several of the things in this area so we may just take it easy tomorrow.
