Traveling with the Grobmyers Day 13 July 12,2025

This morning I drove out to Shear Heaven Farm to play with alpacas. I didn’t know I needed to do that until I saw it in the travel book of York. It was about a 20 minute drive out into the country. Joe didn’t get to go with me because today was his show. She does tours on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It was so much fun.

She had a little class for us before we got to play. She showed us different types of alpacas wool. It is very soft and it is good for both winter and summer. In the summer, for instance alpaca socks will wick away sweat from your feet and help keep them cool.

She had a couple of rules.

#1 not patting alpacas in the butt. They will kick if you do that.

#2 to feed them hold your hand flat and put one treat at a time and wait 3 seconds between treats. They will choke.

#3 no running and load noises. It spooks them.

Not a rule but a caution: beware of the spitting. They will fight to get to your treats and they will slit at each other don’t get in the middle. One of the people in our tour got spit on.

If you have treats you are their new best friend.

This is Bo and he was the first one born here on the farm.

I am having trouble with internet and not all my pictures synced from my phone so I will have to post the video of them running to my Facebook page.

This morning was a lot of fun. They were more polite than the reindeer when we fed them. It was a very informative morning.
