Who doesn't like Rice Krispie Treats? What makes them better? Making them better? Making them Red Velvet! They were perfect for our tailgate eats. The recipe I found for them, was designed for Valentine's Day but Alabama football comes before Valentine's day. They would be cute cut into footballs or hearts with a cookie cutter.
The addition of red velvet cake mix and vanilla is what makes these different.
Add 3 Tablespoons butter and one bag of mini marshmallows to a pot. I like this pot because it is nonstick and the sticky stuff won't stick to the sides.
While the marshmallows are melting measure out the 6 cups of rice Krispies.
Measure out 3/4 cup dry red velvet cake mix. Since I didn't use all of the cake mix that means I will have to make them again soon.
Just about all melted.
Remove from heat and add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
And the dry cake mix.
Mix well in the marshmallows.
Add the cereal to the mixture.
Dump into a sprayed 9x13 inch pan.
I like using a piece of wax paper to press it down in the pan. I saw a hint that you put your hands under cold water first before pressing down. I think wax paper works really well.
Remove the wax paper and let sit until cool, then cut.
