Traveling with the Grobmyers Day 3 July 9,2023

 We slept in this morning and then headed out to find a local diner for breakfast. Harrisburg is the capitol of Pennsylvania so we happened to find Capitol Diner not far from our hotel. It had the classic diner look and a line out the door so we checked it out. As you can see we found some delicious items for breakfast.

After breakfast we headed over to Hershey, Pennsylvania to check out the World of Chocolate. When we arrived we discovered they are celebrating their 50th anniversary.this is it our first trip to Hershey. The chocolate seems fresher and you will find things you can’t find in your local stores.you can ride inside a cocoa bean and learn how the Hershey company makes chocolate. You also get a free piece of chocolate as you exit.

We drove around town to see the chocolate road names and the Hershey kiss shaped street lights.

We left Hershey World before the rain started and headed over to the National Civil War Museum.

After spending some time there it was time to find dinner. Well while we are in Pennsylvania we need to get our fill of Primanti Brothers.last night I ended up ordering the wrong thing. While it was good it was not the sandwich I always get so I was a little disappointed. Tonight I got my favorite sandwich in the whole wide world. It did not disappoint.

This is a corned beef sandwich with cheese. It has a tart christ slaw and fries included in the sandwich.But it is the bread! The bread holds up well to this loaded sandwich. This sandwich is perfection.

Joe’s didn’t look bad either.

Tomorrow we will head forward Lancaster to stop at a few quilt shops before we head into New York City. We have a busy week planned in NYC. So we need to get a good night’s sleep tonight.

Traveling with the Grobmyers Day 2 July 8,2023

 Started out this morning heading to Harrisonburg, Virginia. Harrisonburg is home of  James Madison University, but it is also home to the Virginia Quilt Museum. The museum opens at 10:00 and cost $8.00 to go through. Well worth the cost. It moved into it’s current location in 1996. It is in the Warren-Sipe House which was built in the late 1800’s.

The first exhibit was For Cradle and Crib.

The next was whole cloth quilts.

They had some quilts that will be up for auction. You can go online and check those out.

I liked this exhibit: Quilts gone wild. Quilts that have animal names.

This exhibit is called Playland. I’m not really sure I understand these quilts.

These were some really old quilts they had in another room.

And finally there were lots of old sewing machines throughout the museum.

We left Harrisonburg and headed to Shenandoah National Park.We have driven by  the park along I-81 but have never driven through the park. We needed to check that box, get our passport stamped and buy the Christmas ornament.

We had our customary peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the National Park lunch today.

Well we have checked the box, but we are not very impressed with Shenandoah. We saw one lone turkey for the wildlife today. We have some of the same beautiful hills and farmland right here in north Alabama. 

We ended the day with dinner at one of our favorite places, Primanti Brothers- in Hagerstown , Maryland.

Look who poked their heads out tonight.

We are very close to Hershey, tomorrow might call for some chocolate.

Traveling with the Grobmyers Day 1 July 7, 2023

 So we headed out today for our summer vacation. We are headed to New Haven CT for the A.C.G.H.S. Erector show. We decided we would add some fun things on the front end of the trip.

Our first stop this morning was the Mayfield Dairy Factory Tour. I saw a sign for it last year when we headed home from the erector show and I made note of it so we could stop this year. The Dairy is located in Athens Tennessee not far from Chattanooga. Tours are $8.50 per adult and includes an ice cream cone after the tour. They make milk, buttermilk, and ice cream at this plant. The novelty items are actually made in Birmingham. They fill everything from the little cartons we had in school up to gallons for milk and the square ice cream cartons up to three gallon tubs.

Our next stop was the new Buc-ees outside of Sevierville. It is exit 407 off of I40. It is the largest Buc-ees with 120 gas pumps and very large, clean rest rooms. We had bbq sandwiches for lunch.

The third stop of the day was the Bush Bean visitor center and factory. We did not take the factory tour here. They were close to closing so we just checked out the visitor center. They give a very good history of the Bush family.

This is the family home that was built in 1909.

They said Peyton had not be by there yet.

I tried to get Joe a new tie but he said he doesn’t wear ties much any more.

We finally stopped at our hotel for the night in Virginia. And I don’t know but critters always find me. We found this little guy in the hotel parking lot.
