Red Velvet Hot Chocolate

Well I think most of us have been in a deep freeze for the last couple of weeks, and it looks like it is coming back again.  What is better on a cold day but some hot chocolate.  If for nothing else but to warm up your hands.  I had some left over red velvet cake mix so I had to try this recipe.

Very simple to make.

In a saucepan add 2 cups milk.  I used 2%.

Add 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips.  You could probably use semi sweet if that is all you have.

Add 1 1/2 Tablespoons sugar

Whisk until the chips have melted.  This would make a good hot chocolate at this point even.

Add 3 Tablespoons red velvet cake mix.

Whisk until the cake mix is incorporated well.

Pour into a pretty cup.

And if you want to make it extra special add some whipped cream.

2 cups milk
1/2 cup chocolate chips
1 1/2 Tablespoon sugar
3 Tablespoons red velvet cake mix
Whipped cream for topping
