Crock Pot Cubed Steak

It's Crock Pot Monday yet again.  They seem to come around pretty fast.  This family favorite is a healthier alternative to chicken fried steak.  I think this will become one of your family's favorite too.
This is another one of those recipes that takes about 5 minutes to put together.  Two cans of cream of mushroom soup and half a packet of Lipton onion soup mix.  If you use more than about a half it is too salty.

Put the two cans of mushroom soup in a bowl, then add the half packet of onion soup mix.  Stir well.
The items are well mixed.
Spread a little bit on the bottom of the crock pot.
Add a layer of cubed steak.
Cover each layer with the soup mixture before adding another layer of steak.

Cover the steak well with the remaining mixture, and cover.
The steak after a day of cooking.
I like to fix this just like I would chicken fried steak and have mashed potatoes, biscuits and peas.  You can make your mashed potatoes from scratch as well as the biscuits but they make some really good premade ones that make things so much faster and less messy.
The end results.  The gravy is a little bit more runny that with traditional fried cubed steak.  You could probably add a little cornstarch to thicken it up.
Hope you enjoy your dinner.

  1. Put a clean kitchen towel between top of cooker and lid and it will catch the condensation and may help to keep the gravy thicker. Also if you ad some Kitchen Bouquet and a little Worcestershire sauce it makes a rich dark gravy.

    1. I cook it on low. I turn it on when I leave for work and let it cook all day. It is fine to let it cook for a long time on low.
